Heading into Sunday night's Week 5 matchup between the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills, a lot of eyes were on star wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
Diggs, who spent four seasons with the Bills from 2020 to 2023, returned for the first time since Buffalo traded him to the Houston Texans last year. In the game, the four-time Pro Bowler had his best performance as a Patriot, recording 10 receptions on 12 targets for 146 yards. Diggs helped New England secure the 23-20 upset against the Bills, who were undefeated heading into Sunday night's game.
On Monday, the NFL's official X account sent a message about Diggs, praising him for his "powerful" pregame speech against Buffalo.
"Lean on your brother. Play for your brother. We all we got, we all we [expletive] need. Play hard. Play smart. Offense, let's go be us. Defense, special teams, if it don't got a blue jersey on, hit that [expletive]," Diggs said during his speech.

After an uneventful season in Houston, where he played in just eight games before suffering a season-ending ACL injury, many counted Diggs out, assuming he would not be able to return to peak form because of the injury and his age. However, the Patriots, who were in desperate need of a top wide receiver, took a chance on the 31-year-old in the offseason, signing him to a three-year, $69 million contract. Early on, both sides likely are happy with the decision.
Despite a slow start to his Patriots career with a total of 13 receptions for 112 yards in his first three games, Diggs has turned it around in a major way and is proving to be a crucial part of New England's success.
The Maryland native has recorded at least 100 receiving yards in each of his last two games. Additionally, though he has yet to score a touchdown for the Patriots, he has become a reliable target for young quarterback Drake Maye, who sang his praises during a postgame press conference on Sunday night.
"Coming back here first game, prime time, you could see it all week. He just loves football," Maye said about Diggs. "He's got a lot in the tank left, so it's good he's a Patriot."
As New England aims to return to the playoffs for the first time since the 2021 season, it will need everybody on the roster to bring their A game. That especially includes Diggs, whose role as the team's top receiver is continuing to become even more important as the offense finds its groove.
Diggs and the Patriots are winners of two straight and are 3-2. Their next chance to ride this momentum and establish themselves as potential contenders in the AFC will be during their Week 6 matchup on Sunday when they return home to take on the New Orleans Saints at 1 p.m. ET on Fox.
