The Houston Texans went 10-7 and lost in Divisional Round in 2023 and looked to build off that in Year 2 with quarterback C.J. Stroud and head coach DeMeco Ryans. Unfortunately for them, they replicated those same results in 2024, going 10-7 and losing in the Divisional Round again.

The offseason additions of running back Joe Mixon and wide receiver Stefon Diggs were supposed to elevate the offense. Instead, the unit regressed, dropping from 22.2 points and 342.4 yards per game to 21.9 points and 319.7 yards per game. As a result, the team parted ways with offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik at the end of the year.

The offseason addition's of running back Joe Mixon and wide receiver Stefon Diggs were expected to raise the level of the offense but instead it took a step back going from 22.2 points and 342.4 yards per game to 21.9 points and 319.7 yards per game. The team even fired offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik.

Diggs’ impact was limited—he played just eight games before tearing his ACL, sidelining him for the rest of the season. Now set to hit free agency, his future in Houston remains uncertain.

However, on Wednesday, Texans general manager Nick Caserio addressed the situation on SportsRadio 610’s " Payne & Pendergast," offering some some insight into Diggs’ future with the team: "The door is always open."

“We have good relationships with Stef and his representation,” Caserio said. “We enjoyed having Stef in the building. So, the door is always open. A number of players have expressed sentiments and interest in potentially returning to our team next season. We never rule anything out, so we’re going to be open-minded.”

Diggs, now 31, has shown he can still play at a high level. Before going down with an injury, the 10-year NFL veteran was pacing to reach his seventh straight 1,000-yard season.

Through eight games, the two-time NFL All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler recorded 47 catches for 496 yards and three touchdowns.
