Stephen A. Smith: Stefon Diggs wants out of Buffalo

Stefon Diggs and the Buffalo Bills seemed to have squashed their beef that made headlines during minicamp in June — though it appears there's still some trouble lingering in paradise.

ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith addressed the alleged rocky relationship on Monday, claiming sources have revealed that Diggs is unhappy with the Bills.

"[Diggs] wants out," Smith said on ESPN's "First Take." "He don't want to be in Buffalo no more."

Diggs' displeasure was first evident during the Bills' 27-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the Divisional Round. With Buffalo down big in the fourth quarter, The 29-year-old confronted quarterback Josh Allen on the sideline and emphatically voiced his anger.

By the start of summer, it was clear that his playoff outburst was more than just a heat of the moment altercation. Diggs skipped the Bills' voluntary offseason program, later showing up for meetings with head coach Sean McDermott and GM Brandon Beane during the first two days of mandatory minicamp. Yet the star wideout didn't report to the team's first practice, leading McDermott to say he was "very concerned" about the situation.

Diggs returned to practice the following day, but not before calling out an unnamed person for lying on social media. While many believed the issues between the Bills and their wide receiver were resolved, Smith argues the conflict isn't water under the bridge just yet.

"Stefon Diggs [has] got to be there, but he would prefer to be gone because he's lost a level of belief in the Buffalo Bills," Smith said. "He's not gonna force his way out, he knows he's got to be there and they got to perform, but he aint feeling the Buffalo Bills the way that he once did, because he feels there's a window of opportunity that they may have missed out on."

Since joining Buffalo via trade in 2020, Diggs has thrived with Allen as his pass-slinger. The three-time Pro-Bowler has more than 1,200 yards in each of his three seasons with the Bills and signed a 4-year, $96M extension last year.

Despite his past success, Diggs remains unsatisfied — and could be looking for a fresh start.
