Claiming Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is on the same tier as Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes seems like a ridiculous take, but the numbers say otherwise.
Through 11 games, Prescott has more passing yards (2,935), passing TDs (23) and a better passer rating (107.4) than the Chiefs superstar QB, per CBS Sports.

Mahomes — a two-time Super Bowl champion — is still the better player, carrying an offense that leads the NFL in drops (28). Regardless, the impressive statistics prove Prescott is a legitimate MVP candidate. As of Wednesday, oddschecker gives the 30-year-old the fourth-best odds (+800) of winning the award for the first time in his career.
"Prescott is first in passer rating and passing TDs by a wide margin (he's the only player in the past five games with double-digit TDs)," wrote CBS Sports' Jeff Kerr. "He's playing like an MVP. The Cowboys just have to beat winning teams next to significantly help his case."
Per Tankathon, Dallas has the fifth-most difficult remaining schedule in the league. However, Prescott indicated he would maintain his hot hand and touted his synergy with head coach Mike McCarthy.
"It's about us being on the same page," he said Monday, per Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Clarence Hill. "Yeah, I mean, he's definitely on fire. He's firing them off the call sheet, whether it be run, play action, whatever it is."
After Prescott threw a career-high 15 interceptions last season, he's reestablished himself as a franchise centerpiece who can help the Cowboys end their 28-year Super Bowl drought.
If he keeps thriving and leads Dallas on a deep playoff run, don't be surprised if he earns an extension. The former fourth-round pick has two years remaining on a four-year $160M deal, which includes an out ($61.9M in dead cap) in 2024.
