Super Bowl bets: Two player props each for Eagles, Chiefs

We've made it to Super Bowl week, and while the player prop market has been open since early last week, lines have started to solidify in their spots. It's a good time to scan the board and find us a few of our favorites. The over/under for the game has moved up to 51 points, so the expectation certainly revolves around the offenses making plays, and we'd agree with that sentiment.

We'll spread our net and load up two player prop bets for both the Chiefs and Eagles.

Travis Kelce TD (-113 Caesars)

As you're well aware of at this point, Super Bowl LVII has the Kelce brothers competing against each other. That hasn't been the first mention of it you've seen and it surely won't be the last, but it's garnering the attention it is because these two brothers are so elite at what they do.

If Kansas City is going to win this game, they need Travis Kelce to make some plays. Outside of Patrick Mahomes, Kelce is the Chiefs' most important player on offense, and it isn't particularly close. Averaging 10 targets per game over his last five, expect Mahomes to find Kelce early and often.

We like that volume to yield a touchdown. Kelce thrives in the postseason, having scored a touchdown in five straight playoff games and notching 15 scores in 17 career postseason games.

Philly will certainly have a gameplan to mitigate Kelce's effectiveness, but that's only going to succeed for so long. Assuming Kansas City works the ball into the red zone, it's going to be hard to slow down their star tight end.

Even at these odds, this is a bet worth making.

Patrick Mahomes over 18.5 rushing yards (-120 DraftKings)

We know that Mahomes is dealing with a high-ankle sprain, but when he had to, he showed some mobility against the Bengals, and a few weeks removed from the injury, he should be able to move around reasonably well on Sunday.

When looking at the Eagles' defensive vulnerabilities, you'll be hard-pressed to find many. The one area they rank favorably for a particular position is when it comes to quarterbacks rushing. Philadelphia allowed the fifth-most rushing yards per game to QBs this season at 24.95.

One factor to that high ranking likely lies with their elite pass rush. By disrupting the pocket so consistently, they force passers out of the pocket and give them no choice but to try and pick up a few yards with their legs.

That pass rush figures to play a prominent role in Super Bowl LVII, and we'd expect Mahomes to be moving outside of the pocket quite a bit this weekend.

Mahomes has rushed for 19+ yards in 10 of his last 17 games, he had 26 against Philly in a meeting last year, and in 13 career playoff games, Mahomes averages 26.1 rushing yards per game, up from his 19.3 regular season average throughout his career.

DeVonta Smith over 61.5 receiving yards (-119 Caesars)

The Eagles bring two elite WRs to Arizona for the Super Bowl in AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith. Both pass catchers rank inside the top nine for most receiving yards this season, and each should have their chances in this game.

Kansas City allowed the ninth-most receptions per game to wide receivers this season and the second-most touchdowns to the position.

When we compare the two, we're drawn to Smith's receiving total, especially at this line. He averaged 68.1 yards per game this season and 81.2 in his last 10 games. His 9.2 targets per game in his last 10 is more than Brown's 8.2, and Jalen Hurts has shown no hesitation in giving him chances to make a play down the field.

Smith's usage is the primary driver to his inclusion in this piece, but it's also just the championship pedigree he has from his time in Alabama that has us focused on him having the better day from a prop perspective. Load us up the over here.

Kenneth Gainwell over 32.5 rushing & receiving yards (-114 FanDuel)

Kenneth Gainwell, the second-year running back for the Eagles, has come on strong in these playoffs, totaling 195 yards from scrimmage in two games.

His snaps haven't jumped up that dramatically, but he's seen a season-high in carries over the past two weeks, 12 and 14 in these two games. His previous high this year was eight.

As the hot-hand, we're expecting Gainwell to stay involved in the offensive gameplan. He is over 32.5 rushing & receiving yards in three straight games and six of his last nine.

He's giving us shades of Corey Clement in advance of Super Bowl LVII. You may remember Clement from the Eagles' Super Bowl win over the Patriots five years ago when he led the team with 108 yards from scrimmage.
