Surprising new info emerges about Aaron Rodgers’ wrist injury

Aaron Rodgers reportedly suffered a fracture in his wrist during the Pittsburgh Steelers’ win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, but there is at least a chance the veteran quarterback might not miss a game.

Rodgers hurt his left wrist late in the first half of the Steelers’ 34-12 win over the Bengals at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa. The four-time NFL MVP tried to break his fall after he was hit by multiple defenders, and he was seen grimacing in pain afterward. You can see the play here.

Rodgers exited the game and was replaced by Mason Rudolph. There have been reports that Rodgers suffered a “slight break” in his left wrist and could miss multiple weeks. He is pushing to play, however.

On Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported that Rodgers has told people close to him that the 41-year-old does not want to miss Pittsburgh’s Week 12 game against the Chicago Bears. If Rodgers is able to grip the ball with two hands and receive a snap, he wants to play.

“Aaron Rodgers, to my understanding, has told people close to him that he will be back very soon. He has told more people close to him that he does not want to miss a game. He is pushing to play in this game,” Rapoport said. “I know it seems crazy because he broke a bone in his wrist, but it is the left wrist. If he’s able to grip, if he’s able to receive the ball on the snap, it is actually possible that Rodgers could play this week.

“I had someone tell me that he was essentially 50-50 to play this week. So, it sounds bad, but Aaron Rodgers does want to play and is trying to see how he could do it for the Steelers.”

The Steelers improved to 6-4 with their win over the Bengals. They are in first place in the AFC North, but the Baltimore Ravens have won four straight games and are making a charge at 5-5. Pittsburgh needs to play well in the coming weeks to remain in the playoff hunt, and Rodgers knows that.

Rudolph is a capable backup, but Rodgers has played better than many expected this season. Rodgers has 1,969 passing yards, 19 touchdowns and 7 interceptions on the year.

It would be a surprise if Rodgers were to play in Week 12, but it is a good sign for the Steelers that he wants to. That could suggest that the star quarterback will not be sidelined for very long, even if he has to sit out a game or two.
