The Pittsburgh Steelers finally dove into divisional play in Week 6 of the season against the Cleveland Browns. For once, they dominated a game from start to finish. They played complementary football for a second game in a row, showing that the bye week didn’t slow them down. Mike Tomlin is now 15-4 after the bye week and 27-7 against rookie quarterbacks. The Steelers are now 4-1 with a Thursday Night Football game against the Bengals up next.
The Browns can’t find a way to win at Acrisure Stadium in the regular season. Week 6 made it 22 consecutive losses in Pittsburgh for Cleveland in the regular season, dating back to 2003. The last time the Browns got a win in the Steel City, Tommy Maddox was the Steelers quarterback. Cleveland will have to wait until 2026 to get another crack at the Steelers in Pittsburgh, but they won’t win then either.
DK Metcalf has been coming into his own as the season progresses. He’s caught a touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers in four consecutive games. Through five games, he has 19 receptions for 356 yards and four touchdowns. The newest Steelers receiver is averaging 71 yards per game, and he’s tied for the most receptions of 20+ yards in the NFL. Pittsburgh got a gem. He’s the total package as a WR1. His connection with Rodgers gets better by the week.
As always, Chris Boswell came through for the Steelers last week. He made three field goals and nailed his singular extra point attempt. Boswell missed a field goal, but that wasn’t his fault. The conditions at Acrisure Stadium were less than ideal in Week 6. Multiple players made comments about it following the game. The ground crew needs to get on top of things. It cost Miles Killebrew his season.
The Steelers’ defense was everywhere on Sunday. They botched a handful of interceptions, but they sacked Dillon Gabriel six times. He was seeing ghosts all day in his first trip to the Steel City. Jalen Ramsey became the first Pittsburgh defensive back with multiple sacks in a game since Mike Hilton on Christmas Day in 2017. If the Steelers defense continues to play like this, success is in their future.
Browns star Myles Garrett spent the week talking junk on social media and mocking Renegade to be a complete no-show on Sunday. He was invisible out there. Broderick Jones had allowed the most sacks in the league before Week 6. He shut the door on one of football’s best pass rushers in Week 6. Garrett was a no-show despite a chip rate of 12.5%. He’s a great football player, but he seems to disappear at times.
Getting a win in Week 6 was huge for the Steelers. They have a massive lead in the division that they have to keep building on. The Ravens will creep up on them later in the season. It’s imperative to create as large a gap as possible. Just keep winning. Now, they turn the page to the Cincinnati Bengals.
