Steel City Underground presents post-game takeaways following each 2025 NFL regular season game that focuses on how the Pittsburgh Steelers performed, key statistics, their opponents and more!

The Monday Night Football winning streak for the Pittsburgh Steelers remains intact following a 28-15 victory that eliminated the Miami Dolphins from the NFL playoffs at the end of the regular season. The game showcased arguably the best offensive performance for the Steelers this season and the defense took advantage of the Dolphins by holding them to just 285 yards of offense. We offer our takeaways from the Week 15 Steelers victory.

Rodgers was dealing during primetime

Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers looked remarkably relaxed throughout the majority of the game on Monday night and that was thanks to an offensive line that lost Isaac Seumalo at one point and featured Dylan Cook (T) and Spencer Anderson (G) on the left side of the line. Rodgers showed veteran composure managing the game clock as Pittsburgh scored four consecutive offensive touchdowns in as many drives. The Steelers held the time of possession lead by a large margin until late in the game.

Rodgers was able to complete 23-of-27 passes to nine different receiving targets for 224 yards and two passing touchdowns. The veteran looked like he was having fun again – a far cry from how he appeared during the upsetting loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 13.

Balanced offense

The Steelers offense successfully ran on 32 attempts to 27 passing attempts, showcasing that their balanced offense is more potent. Some of the success can be attributed to the addition of Adam Thielen (1 catch for 7 yards) and Marquez Valdes-Scantling (1 catch for 19 yards) who often forced Miami’s defense to play wide and be unable to sell out on stopping just D.K. Metcalf (3 catches for 55 yards; 1 TD) or the run game.

Kenneth Gainwell and Jaylen Warren contributed near equally in the run game with 13 and 12 carries, respectively. The duo combined for 113 yards of the Steelers’ total 135 rushing yards.

Some nice firsts

There were some Steelers players who earned accolades on the field as members of this 2025 squad. Asante Samuel, Jr. grabbed his first interception with Pittsburgh off of Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa in the opening quarter of the game. Defensive end Esezi Otomewo earned his first sack of the season. Tight end Jonnu Smith powered-in his first rushing touchdown with the team.

Defense held up well without Watt, Harmon

The Steelers entered the game without veteran outside linebacker T.J. Watt and interior defensive lineman Derrick Harmon against a Dolphins team that had turned running back De’Von Achane loose on opponents. There was concern that the Steelers may not have the stopping power against the powerful back. Instead, Achane was held to just 60 yards on 12 carries.

Top Miami receiver Darren Waller (tight end) was limited to 66 yards on 7 catches, but did find the end zone twice in the fourth quarter.

The Steelers allowed the Dolphins to convert 2-of-8 third downs and 1-1 fourth downs, forcing Miami to punt 4 times in the game.

Pittsburgh also sacked Tagovailoa 4 times for a loss of 31 yards. Patrick Queen, Jalen Ramsey, and Cameron Heyward were awarded 1.0 sacks apiece along with Otomewo.

Final thoughts

At 8-6, the Steelers hold onto their one-game lead over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North race. They can lose their next two games and enter the playoffs with a second win over the Ravens.

Instead of playing for the entrance to the postseason, it’d be good to see Pittsburgh take on the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns with the same fire they’ve had in their latest win and grab ownership of the division outright.
