The Kansas City Chiefs have been the gold standard since Patrick Mahomes was made the starter.
Seven straight AFC Championship appearances, three Super Bowl wins, four Super Bowl appearances (soon to be five), and a culture of winning has put the Chiefs on the doorstep of history as they chase a third successive Super Bowl title.
That level of success, coupled with what people perceive as "help" from the officials, has seen many people view the Chiefs as the villains of the NFL.
Add the conspiracy theorists who think Taylor Swift's presence means the fix is in, and ...
Well, as it turns out, tight end Travis Kelce, who was speaking on the New Heights podcast, loves that the rest of the football world sees them as such.
"I love it. I love it," Kelce said. "At one point in time, it wasn't that, I was the 'do you feel bad for 'em guys.' I'm enjoying doing this with the guys together. The guys that we have in there because it just makes us even more of a family. You just circle the wagons, people are saying whatever they want. You just band together, and it makes you appreciate more of what you have because people want what you have."
Given how successful the Chiefs have been over the last seven years, it is no wonder that fans might have "Chiefs fatigue" and want others to win for a change. ... and we do understand how that includes Kelce's girlfriend Swift.
KC seems like it "has it all.'' Fans of teams who don't "have it all'' dislike that.
But Kansas City has shown no signs of relenting in its pursuit of being one of, if not the best, team in the sport, which for some is up for debate.
Now, into another Super Bowl, the NFL's villains are one win away from immortality, and if they secure a third straight Super Bowl win, there will be no shaking that villain role any time soon.
