Teams willing to give Mitchell Trubisky a deal worth $10M per year?

Mitchell Trubisky is expected to be one of the surprising winners of free agency this offseason, and it sounds like he will have a legitimate shot to compete for a starting job heading into 2022.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on Sunday that at least five teams are interested in Trubisky — the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Commanders. Four of those teams are in need of a starting quarterback, and that assumes the Giants stick with Daniel Jones.

According to Fowler, teams have openly discussed the possibility of Trubisky landing a deal with more than $10 million per year. That would be clear starter money. Roughly half of the starting quarterbacks in the NFL make less than $10 million per year.

Trubisky, 27, was drafted No. 2 overall by the Bears in 2017. He went 29-21 over four shaky seasons as Chicago’s starter. Although he passed for 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions during a Pro Bowl season in 2018, he threw for an average of only 208 yards per game during his Bears career.

Trubisky spent the 2021 season as Josh Allen’s backup with the Buffalo Bills. There have been a lot of positive reports about the former No. 2 overall pick this offseason.
