Columbus Aviators head coach Ted Ginn Jr. was arrested on Saturday in Texas on a driving while intoxicated charge, a day before his team’s next game.

Ginn was arrested by the Euless Police Department in Tarrant County and booked into the county jail under the name Theodore Ginn, per Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Robbie Hoy. He was later released on a $1,000 bond.

Ginn was stopped at 12:58 a.m. for traffic violations at 100 West Euless Boulevard, where officers conducted a DWI investigation before taking him into custody, Euless police spokesperson Brenda Alvarado told The News.

The Aviators (0-2) are scheduled to face the Dallas Renegades on Sunday at Toyota Stadium in Frisco.

“We are aware of an incident involving Head Coach Ted Ginn Jr. over the weekend and are in the process of gathering more information,” UFL president & CEO Russ Brandon said in a statement. “Offensive coordinator Todd Haley will handle the head coaching duties for the Aviators game on Sunday.”

Ginn, who turns 41 on Sunday, was hired as Columbus’s head coach in December 2025 despite having no previous head-coaching experience. He previously announced his retirement from the NFL in 2021 after a 14-year playing career.

A first-round pick, Ginn was selected ninth overall in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. Over the course of his career, he suited up for Miami, the San Francisco 49ers, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, New Orleans Saints, and Chicago Bears.

During his NFL career, Ginn spent three seasons in Carolina, recording 134 receptions for 2,047 yards and 19 touchdowns in 47 games, and was a crucial part of the Panthers’ Super Bowl 50 run in 2015.
