Former Tennessee Vols offensive lineman Trey Smith is living proof that falling in the NFL Draft can be a good thing.
Despite being widely regarded as a first-round talent, Smith fell to the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, where he was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs.
Smith, who has earned two Super Bowl rings with the Chiefs, landed in a dream scenario in Kansas City.
The former Vol gets to block for future Hall of Fame quarterback Patrick Mahomes while playing for a future Hall of Fame coach in Andy Reid.
Additionally, Smith has been teammates with future Hall of Fame tight end Travis Kelce for the last five seasons. That also means that Smith has had a front-row seat to one of the most famous NFL romances of all time -- the highly-publicized relationship between Kelce and music superstar Taylor Swift.
Smith recently appeared on New Rory & Mal and he was asked about Swift and what it's been like to experience the Kelce/Swift relationship first hand.
"Not at all, man," said Smith when asked if Swift's arrival on the scene impacted the Chiefs' locker room dynamic. "Honestly, it just was super normal. Being able to meet her early on and just talking to her. I think once you meet her as a human being, a person, like face-to-face, and sort of understand it, you realize [that] she really is a beautiful human being. She's awesome, she's super nice, she's thoughtful, she's kind. She remembered my name and my sister's name after meeting us, like, months later. That meant a lot, you know, just a small thing.
"And for me, I didn't know how big of a deal Taylor Swift was, how much of a star she is, until she got there and I started watching people move around. I'm like, okay, this is different. I think the biggest thing I would say is how nice of a person she is....she really is dope, she's awesome."
It isn't a surprise that Smith, who also confirmed that Kelce doesn't play Swift songs in the locker room, had some extremely kind things to say about the pop superstar. Smith, after all, is as classy as it gets.
I wouldn't consider myself a Swiftie, but it's refreshing to hear Smith talk about Swift in a positive way. The constant negativity surrounding what's really just a fun story about a famous couple is exhausting.
