There have been headlines in abundance regarding the ongoing contract standoff between the Washington Commanders and Terry McLaurin. And now, the wide receiver has finally broken his silence on the subject.
McLaurin skipped voluntary OTAs and mandatory minicamp in pursuit of a lucrative contract extension that has yet to arrive. Rumors are swirling about the wideout doing the same at training camp unless something gets worked out beforehand. It's a growing concern, but most fans expect some middle ground to be reached when push comes to shove.
The Commanders need McLaurin. He loves the franchise, toiling through some dark days to finally come out on the other end smiling. That makes another deal a no-brainer for most. Still, the business side of things is proving complicated.
Negotiations are slow. No real progress has supposedly been made over the last month. We're now a few days away from players and coaches reporting for camp, so it's rapidly becoming an unwanted distraction. And the only way to solve it is by McLaurin signing on the dotted line.
It was no surprise to see media members in attendance for McLaurin's promotional shoot with Easterns Automotive Group on Tuesday. The receiver spoke to those in attendance after, and there was only one topic on everybody's mind.
Inevitably, McLaurin was asked about his contract. And the wideout wasn't shy in voicing his displeasure.
I've been pretty frustrated, I'm not going to lie. Everything that has transpired up until this point has been disappointing and frustrating. I want to continue my career here. I've created my life here. My wife and I bought our first home here, so this has been somewhere where I've always wanted to be.Terry McLaurin via NBC Sports

Can't say it any better than that. McLaurin wants to finish his career in Washington. One also gets the sense he feels slighted by the Commanders for dragging this out.
This confirmed the reports from others. McLaurin feels let down and wants a successful resolution to this predicament sooner rather than later. And the Commanders would be wise to extend him as soon as possible before they receive backlash.
McLaurin's frustrations cannot boil over. He's a pivotal part of the team's plans, and the Commanders have no shot at getting over the hump without his presence on and off the field.
Letting this go past the point of no return is simply not an option.
