Terry McLaurin confirmed the reports. He's frustrated and disappointed by the Washington Commanders' lack of progress regarding his new deal. And he let everyone know about it.
McLaurin spoke to the media for the first time since his contract holdout. The former third-round pick out of Ohio State feels disrespected by the Commanders after everything he's given to the organization. He also hinted that further measures are coming if nothing gets agreed before a perceived cut-off point.
The Commanders have let this become a distraction. Adam Peters knows how to run a successful football operation, but the general manager is playing with fire here. And with a few days left until Washington players and coaches congregate for the start of training camp, it's becoming a bigger concern among the fan base.
The second-team All-Pro wasn't shy in voicing his displeasure. McLaurin knows his value to the franchise and won't be begging for others to see his true worth. The wideout also told JP Finlay from NBC Sports that even though this saga hasn't reached the point of no return yet, it is on the not-too-distant horizon.
You feel like you have to beg for someone to see your worth and your value. You feel like you've put that out there year in and year out. Everything, previous regimes, and even now, I've done everything that's been asked of me. I'm not perfect at all, I've definitely made mistakes, but I've always led with the right foot, and I've tried to put myself in a position to be a person that can be valued and respected among his coaches and his teammates, but also be a dog on the field. And I don't want to get that mistaken. I feel like I'm one of the best receivers in this league. It's not because of me feeling that way, I feel like I've proven that. At some point, there is a point of no return, but I don’t think we’re there yet. Time is ticking, though.Terry McLaurin via NBC Sports

Not exactly a glowing reference of how Washington's brass has handled this situation up to now, but there is still time to turn things around.
Talks could ramp up now that McLaurin is back in town. The Commanders don't want one of their genuine franchise cornerstones to enter the new campaign unhappy or unprepared. Getting sorted sooner rather than later remains the primary objective. Peters cannot let this relationship sour.
McLaurin is a phenomenal player. He's still performing at an elite level and wants to be a Washington lifer. The business side isn't matching with what Peters has in mind right now, so this is all about finding some middle ground and ensuring the Ohio State product cements his status as a modern franchise great.
Anything less is the sort of organizational malpractice associated with previous regimes within Washington's football franchise. But as McLaurin said, the clock is ticking.
