Despite returning their top two rushers from last season - Joe Mixon and Daemon Pierce - the Houston Texans could possibly shake up the running backs room this summer.

In a recent article offering '100 Bold Predictions for the 2025 NFL Season', Sports Illustrated senior writer Conor Orr suggested the New York Jets would trade running back Breece Hall before the season opener.

The Texans were among four teams projected to land Hall.

"A handful of running back-needy teams—the Bengals, Chiefs, Texans and Cowboys—will get through camp and search to upgrade at the position, while the Jets will seek to pair Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis with a veteran still on the market who is looking to sign closer to the start of the regular season." Orr wrote.

A second-round pick by the Jets in 2022 out of Iowa State, Hall is entering the final year of his four-year, $9 Million rookie contract, and will be a free agent following the 2025 season.

Hall burst onto the scene during his rookie season in New York, averaging 5.8 yards per carry in 2023 before suffering a torn ACL. Since then, he's fallen short of 1,000 yards in each of the last two seasons with the Jets.

Last season, he paced the Jets with 876 rush yards and five touchdowns.

Led by Mixon, six different running backs saw playing time for the Texans in 2024. Houston currently has eight running backs listed on the roster, including rookie Woody Marks, the team's fourth-round draft pick out of USC.

Reportedly dealing with an ankle injury, Mixon was among a number of players on the non-participant list as the Texans began OTAs on Wednesday. With Mixon out, the thought was Pierce could get some reps in with the first team, but like Mixon, he was among the veterans not present for the voluntary workouts on Wednesday.
