The Houston Texans' offseason has stood out as among the busiest in the NFL when it comes to both retaining key pieces of their roster for the future, and also staying diligent in making necessary upgrades on both sides of the ball.
They've re-signed guys like Ed Ingram and Sheldon Rankins before either even hit the open market, were proactive in extending Danielle Hunter and Dalton Schultz through the 2027 season, and even made noticeable upgrades in the form of adding David Montgomery, Reed Blankenship, and multiple new starters on the offensive line.
And while the work of improving the roster is far from over, the process is one that Texans owner Cal McNair appears to be confident in, who addressed the team's offseason moves for the first time since the free agency dust has settled during the NFL owners’ meetings in Arizona.
"It's all year round," McNair said about building up the roster, via KPRC2's Aaron Wilson. "This has been a fun part, in free agency, and getting a few of our guys signed back, I think was important. And then, bringing in guys with toughness and attitude is what they were looking for, and hopefully they did that. I think they did."
"Adding the running back [David Montgomery], safety [Reed Blankenship], some of those key areas are really going to help us moving forward. We're excited that the holes are filled with where they think we are, and you go into the draft and pick the very best player. And that's how you build the best team, is picking the best player in the draft, and moving forward."

The Texans' newly named chief community officer, Hannah McNair, echoed similar sentiments as her husband about Houston's offseason thus far: the Texans' brain trust had their minds set out to bring in talented players with a certain mentality to fit into their existing core, and have filled those needs rather well.
"I think everyone that is on the roster; DeMeco [Ryans] likes a certain sort of player, and I think you see that on the roster," McNair said, via Wilson. "They work hard. They have a "SWARM" mentality... The [players] we've added, I think you're seeing, it's those types of guys that he likes on this team. I think they've been working hard this offseason, and I think we'll get better."
While the Texans already look far better than they shaped up to be last season, don't expect the work to stop in Houston when it comes to getting this roster ready for the 2026 campaign.
The draft now sits less than a month away where this team has eight picks at their disposal throughout, and four picks in the top 70 selections to provide another wave of bright young talent to an already potent roster.
If McNair's comments are any hint of what to expect once that time comes, the Texans' top pick at 28th overall could be a pretty simple decision by just plugging in the best player available, and thus make the finishing touches for a playoff-ready roster headed into offseason training.
