After two impressive seasons in the NFL, C.J. Stroud is gearing up for his third year with the Houston Texans. Following back-to-back postseason berths and second-round exits, the expectation is for Stroud and Houston to build on that success.
Coming out of Ohio State, Stroud’s rookie season was remarkable in every facet, especially considering how many doubted the Texans entering the 2023 campaign.
He completed 63.9% of his passes for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns, and just five interceptions. In 2024, Stroud experienced moments of a sophomore slump, completing 63.2% of his passes for 3,727 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
Despite the slight statistical dip, Stroud was officially ranked No. 39 on the NFL’s Top 100 list on Monday for 2025, a drop from his No. 20 spot following his rookie year.

It's important to note that the Texans dealt with significant injuries at the wide receiver position last season, which likely contributed to Stroud’s inconsistent production at times.
They were without Nico Collins for a portion of the year, and Tank Dell—who had formed a strong connection with Stroud—suffered a serious season-ending injury in Week 16, costing them a key offensive weapon heading into postseason play.
Nonetheless, Stroud is still just 23 years old, and Houston has upgraded around their offense this offseason. They added Christian Kirk at wide receiver, rookie Jayden Higgins, and brought in Nick Chubb at running back to pair with Joe Mixon, who is currently rehabbing a foot injury ahead of the Texans’ Week 1 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 7.
