When the Tennessee Titans formed their initial 53-man roster this week, two areas of focus were particularly noticeable. General manager Mike Borgonzi wanted to address his offensive line and corner depth first and foremost.
Tennessee waived or outright released six defensive backs and four offensive linemen ahead of Tuesday's deadline.
The Titans claimed two corners, Jalyn Armour-Davis and Samuel Womack III off of waivers in addition to defensive end C.J. Ravenell and linebacker Dorian Mausi.
"Corners you can't have enough of," said Borgonzi. "I know we have seven right now on the active and we went heavy in the o-line. Those positions are tough once you get into the season. So there's a lot of roster gymnastics you have to do here at the beginning to try to keep some guys. Corners and offensive linemen, in my experience, have been the toughest position groups to really find during the season. So that's really the reason why we went heavy there."
Tennessee has already added some of the players both waived and released back to the team's 16-man practice squad.
No team is overwhelmingly comfortable with their corner or, in particular, offensive tackle depth. Prioritizing undrafted rookie free agent tackle. Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson, for example, while testing the bottom half of their defensive back depth chart this preseason helped guide fringe roster math. The 2025 season will be defined by 2025 No. 1 overall pick, quarterback Cam Ward, and his ability to elevate a rebuilding roster.
Borgonzi and his staff's tactics in raising the talent floor around Ward will also help inform whether or not the Titans restructured front offseason is up to the task.
