Happy 79th birthday to five-time Pro Bowler, two-time Super Bowl champion and Super Bowl VIII MVP for the Miami Dolphins, Larry Csonka!
Csonka was a first-round pick by the Dolphins out of Syracuse in the 1968 draft, and posted 540 yards and six touchdowns in 11 games as a rookie. He made his first of five-straight Pro Bowls starting in 1970, and his first 1,000-yard campaign in 1971 earned him a spot on his first All-Pro team. Csonka was a key piece of the Dolphins run to three straight Super Bowl appearances from 1970-73, combining for 257 rushing yards and two TDs in Super Bowls XVII and XVIII.
After his days in Miami were over, he played one season for the Memphis Southmen of the World Football League in 1975 before coming back to the NFL for three seasons with the Giants before finishing his career back with the Dolphins in 1979. He retired with 8,081 rushing yards and 64 touchdowns in his career en route to a Hall of Fame induction in 1987.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Csonka has two of the 22 all-time 100-rushing-yard efforts in the Super Bowl. How many of those players can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
