The 25 worst moves NFL teams made in 2025

Not all NFL decisions work out. These 25 moves stand out as the worst of 2025 as the season draws to a close.

1 of 25

Bears sign DT Grady Jarrett

Adding a veteran presence to the defense was important for Chicago, but Jarrett hasn't played up to his three-year, $43.5 million contract. He's recorded only 22 tackles and no sacks or hurries in 10 games.

Bears sign EDGE Dayo Odeyingbo

Jay Biggerstaff / USA Today Sports Images

Another big offseason signing for the front seven, Odeyingbo signed a three-year $48 million contract with $32 million guaranteed. He's had a rough first year, with only 21 tackles and one sack in eight games before suffering a torn Achilles.

Bills sign WR Josh Palmer

Bills sign WR Josh Palmer

Fixing the receiving corps was high on Buffalo's priority list again this year, but Palmer has yet to help much. The former Charger has only 18 catches in his first eight games, missing time with ankle and knee issues. He signed a three-year deal with $18 million guaranteed in the offseason.

Bills sign CB Tre'Davious White

White was a Pro Bowler and fan favorite at the start of his career with Buffalo, but his return hasn't gone as well. After signing for $6.8 million, White has struggled in coverage as a starter.

Broncos sign TE Evan Engram

Engram hasn't made the impact Denver hoped after signing a two-year, $23 million deal. He has only 40 catches for 347 yards and one score through Week 14.

Buccaneers sign EDGE Haason Reddick

Reddick was hoping to revive his career after a poor season with the Jets in 2024. That hasn't happened in Tampa Bay, as he's recorded only 1.5 sacks through Week 14 after signing for $12 million guaranteed.

Cardinals sign DL Dalvin Tomlinson

Cardinals sign DL Dalvin Tomlinson

Tomlinson signed a two-year, $29 million deal with $16 million guaranteed, but he's had a tough time making an impact for the Cardinals. While he's started the team's first 13 games, Tomlinson has only 19 tackles, one hurry, and no sacks.

Chargers sign OG Mekhi Becton

Early-career injuries disrupted the start of Becton's career, but he earned a two-year, $20 million deal with the Chargers after a strong 2024 season in Philadelphia. Becton has been healthy for most of this season, but has struggled to protect Justin Herbert.

Chargers sign RB Najee Harris

The Chargers signed Harris to a one-year deal with $5.25 million guaranteed, hoping he could pair with rookie Omarion Hampton. The move looks like a disaster in retrospect, as he saw only 43 snaps in three games and was lost for the year to a torn Achilles.

10 of 25

Chiefs sign CB Kristian Fulton

KC's top two corners have been terrific this year, but Fulton has contributed very little after signing a two-year, $20 million deal in the offseason. He's missed significant time due to injuries, playing only four games through Week 14.

11 of 25

Commanders sign S Will Harris

Commanders sign S Will Harris

Harris signed a reasonable two-year deal with a maximum value of $10 million in the offseason. That's still a significant sum for the contribution, as Harris has played only five games due to a fractured leg.

12 of 25

Commanders sign DT Javon Kinlaw

Washington remade their defensive line, signing Kinlaw to a massive three-year, $45 million deal with $30 million guaranteed. He's struggled to create pass rush, with only four hurries and no sacks in 13 games.

13 of 25

49ers sign WR Demarcus Robinson

San Francisco was desperate for receiver help after trading Deebo Samuel and losing Brandon Aiyuk to injury. Robinson hasn't been the answer they hoped for, with only 13 catches in 10 games. He signed a two-year deal in the offseason.

14 of 25

Giants sign CB Paulson Adebo

Vincent Carchietta / USA Today Sports Images

New York needed help in the secondary, but Adebo's three-year deal worth $54 million with $36 million hasn't been a great value. The former Saints corner has missed time due to injury, and allowed a 65% completion rate through eight games played.

15 of 25

Giants sign EDGE Chauncey Golston

Giants sign EDGE Chauncey Golston
Raymond Carlin III / USA Today Sports Images

Golston joined New York on a three-year, $19.5 million deal, but has been out for most of the year, mostly due to a neck injury. In the six games he's played, Golston had eight tackles and no sacks.

16 of 25

Giants sign QB Russell Wilson

Giants sign QB Russell Wilson
David Butler II / USA Today Sports Images

The addition of Wilson in New York was predictably unsuccessful after his struggles in Denver and Pittsburgh. The team lost all three games he started after Wilson signed a one-year, $10.5 million contract in the offseason.

17 of 25

Jaguars sign WR Dyami Brown

Jaguars sign WR Dyami Brown
Doug Engle / USA Today Sports Images

Brown was given $10 million in the offseason to help spark the Jags offense, even as he contributed on a limited basis in four seasons with Washington. He hasn't done much more in Jacksonville, with only 19 catches for 219 yards and one touchdown through Week 14.

18 of 25

Jaguars sign EDGE Emmanuel Ogbah

Jaguars sign EDGE Emmanuel Ogbah
Mark J. Rebilas / USA Today Sports Images

Ogbah's move north from Miami to Jacksonville for one year hasn't been of great benefit to the team. He's struggled as a role player, with only two hurries and a half-sack in 11 games.

19 of 25

Jets sign QB Justin Fields

Jets sign QB Justin Fields
David Butler II / USA Today Sports Images

New York signed Fields to a two-year deal worth $30 million, in a move that looks like another setback for the Jets franchise. Fields went 2-7 as a starter, with a terrible 38.1 QBR.

20 of 25

Panthers sign EDGE Patrick Jones

Panthers sign EDGE Patrick Jones
Bob Donnan / USA Today Sports Images

It's been a disastrous year for Jones after signing a two-year, $20 million contract, as he played only four games before undergoing season-ending back surgery. He recorded one sack in nine tackles when he played.

21 of 25

Raiders trade for QB Geno Smith

Las Vegas got the band back together when they hired former Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll and acquired Smith for a third-round pick. The team proceeded to give Smith a two-year extension with $66.5 million guaranteed, but he's seen a steep decline this season with 14 picks and a 32.5 QBR in 13 games.

22 of 25

Saints sign WR Brandin Cooks

Saints sign WR Brandin Cooks

Cooks was a good story, returning to the team that drafted him on a two-year deal. Unfortunately, he continued to show that his decline in Dallas was real, and he was waived before Thanksgiving.

23 of 25

Saints sign S Justin Reid

Saints sign S Justin Reid
Stephen Lew / USA Today Sports Images

Reid effectively replaced Tyrann Mathieu in the Saints secondary, signing a three-year $31.5 million deal with $22.5 million guaranteed. While productive, Reid has had a rough go in coverage, allowing a 73% completion rate and 108.6 Passer Rating.

24 of 25

Steelers trade for Jalen Ramsey

Steelers trade for Jalen Ramsey
Barry Reeger / USA Today Sports Images

Ramsey is a likely Hall of Famer with seven Pro Bowls, but there has been clear decline over the last two seasons. After being swapped for Minkah Fitzpatrick, Ramsey has allowed a 71% completion rate and 116.7 Passer Rating through 13 games.

25 of 25

Titans sign WR Tyler Lockett

Titans sign WR Tyler Lockett
Steve Roberts / USA Today Sports Images

Seattle moved on from Lockett in the offseason, and his veteran presence didn't do much to help rookie quarterback Cam Ward in Tennessee. Lockett had 10 catches for 70 yards in seven games before his release in October after signing for $4 million in the offseason.
