The 5 edge rushers for the Detroit Lions in the 2024 NFL Draft
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

NFL Draft season is upon us and for the next few weeks we will be ranking our top five options for the Lions at each position of need. We'll also be ranking players based off of where the Lions are picking. So these will be players that they will be able to draft. We've already done cornerbacksreceivers and tight ends. now it's time to do edge rushers.

An edge rusher is one of the Lions top needs going into the offseason after the Lions tallied just 41 sacks in 2023. The draft was always where the Lions were expected to find their guy since the options in free agency were way too expensive. Here's my top five options for the Lions in the draft:

Robinson was a baller for the Missouri Tigers in 2023. He had 8.5 sacks in 12 games and help Mizzou beat Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl. Then he had a killer Senior Bowl and a solid Combine. Still, the Lions should be able to get him at 29.

Robinson would probably love that too. He grew up a Lions fan and was very enthusiastic about the idea of playing in Detroit when he was asked about it at the combine. There's some interest there from the Lions too. They had a formal meeting with him in Indianapolis.

Kneeland's athleticism is what's really attractive here. He has great speed and strength. He's the kind of guy that could sack a quarterback by pushing his offensive lineman into him. His ability to push through blocks is immediately seen on the film.

I also really liked the self awareness that the guy showed at the combine. I asked him what his 40-yard dash time would be and he told me he would run a 4.7. Then he went out and ran a 4.7. At an event where a lot of guys overhyped their 40-yard dash, Kneeland went out and did what he said he would do.

I'm a big wrestling fan. In wrestling they always talk about the second generation wrestler. The wrestler who's parent did it and now they're doing it. Jonah Elliss is about to become a second generation NFL player and he could maybe even be a second generation Detroit Lion. His father Luther Elliss was a Pro Bowl defensive lineman for the Lions in the 90's.

Jonah Elliss has a lot of pass rush ability that could help the Lions. He had 13 sacks in 10 games for Utah last year. He probably would have had more if he had not suffered a season ending shoulder injury.

At one point Trice was a first round draft pick. Now he's a guy that the Lions might have a shot at in the third round after other players have risen up the board.

Trice is a lot like Aidan Hutchinson in terms of style. There's going to be a lot of pressures on the board, but maybe not the sack total you were hoping for. Last year Trice had eight sacks in 15 games and led the nation in pressures with 80.

Kamara is a guy that the Lions could get on day three if they chose to go with other positions ahead of edge. He's the sneaky good player that some team is going to luck out with late.

Kamara was a baller at Colorado State in 2023. He netted 14 sacks in 12 games. The problem is that he's undersized and that's why he's a fourth rounder instead of a second rounder. Still, that hasn't stopped him in the past.
