The Colts dream 2024 NFL Draft board
Kelly Wilkinson/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK

The 2024 NFL Draft is just one day away, with it set to kick off at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

The Indianapolis Colts currently own the 15th pick in the first round, but there's been a lot of smoke about them potentially trading up.

But today, I want to discuss some realistic things that could happen in front of their pick to form a dream scenario for the Colts.

5 Quarterbacks

At this point, It seems like a lock that the top four QBs are drafted before the Colts' selection at 15  And with them having their QB in Anthony Richardson, they have no interest in the QBs in this class. The pipe dream would be for the top 6 QBs all to hear their names called before pick 15, but I have a hard time seeing that as a realistic option personally. But a fifth coming off the board would help the Colts out tremendously. So the Colts are rooting for both Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix to impress just one team enough to hear their name selected in the top 14.

5 Offensive Tackles

Another position the Colts won't be in the market for in the first round is offensive tackle, And it's another clear strength in this class. After weighing the realistic options here, I think the number to root for is five offensive tackles coming off the board. The five names that come to mind are Notre Dame's Joe Alt, Oregon State's Taliese Fuaga, Washington's Troy Fautanu, Penn State's Olumuyiwa Fashanu, and Alabama's JC Latham. The top of this class has a lot of fans across the NFL, so I wouldn't be shocked to see a run on OTs come soon after the first is taken inside the top 10.

1 DT

This last one is defensive tackle, another position the Colts won't be targeting in round one. The two players to watch are Texas' Byron Murphy II and Illinois' Jer'Zhan "Johnny" Newton. If just one of those talented interior linemen can come off the board, it'll push players that the Colts will have high on their board to them at pick 15 without having to trade up.

Colts at 15

If all of the above happened, that would take up 11 of the 14 picks in front of the Colts, leaving just three other players coming off the board  The Colts have often been linked to the top pass catchers, corners as well as edge rushers  Here are some of the players that have been linked to them at their current draft spot:

  • Rome Odunze, WR, Washington
  • Malik Nabers, WR, LSU
  • Brian Thomas Jr., WR, LSU
  • Brock Bowers, TE, Georiga
  • Dallas Turner, Edge, Alabama
  • Laiatu Latu, Edge, UCLA
  • Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo
  • Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama
  • Cooper DeJean, CB, Iowa

It's safe to assume that one of the three remaining spots would be filled by the consensus top WR in this year's class, Marvin Harrison Jr. That would leave just two more spots before the Colts pick, so at worst, all but two of the players I listed above would be available to the Colts at pick 15.

So, not only would they come away with a top player, but we'd know for a certainty that they valued said player over other top options on the board. It also could open the door for the Colts to trade back a few spots with so much talent on the board, which would allow them to still land a top talent and additional picks this year or in the future.
