The Colts signed a familiar face to replace Julian Blackmon
USA TODAY Sports

The Indianapolis Colts have made a corresponding move with the news of safety Julian Blackmon heading to the IR.

They have signed safety Henry Black off the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad.

The Green Bay Packers signed Black as an undrafted free agent in 2020. After spending time on their practice squad, he appeared in eight regular-season games with the Packers that season. He would appear in all 17 the following season, where he hauled in his first and only interception of his NFL career to date.

Since the 2021 season, Black has yet to appear in a regular season game, although he had spent time on the practice squad with the New York Giants and Atlanta Falcons before this season.

This isn't Black's first time with the Colts, as he spent training camp with the team this year after signing a reserves/futures deal after last season. He didn't make the Colts 53 man roster and was signed to their practice squad. They would release Black on October 24th, leading him to sign with the Steelers practice squad on November 21st.

He now replaces Blackmon on the Colts active roster. And although they will look to Rodney Thomas II and Nick Cross to man their safety reps, there likely is a role for Black to make an impact on special teams this season with Tony Brown serving a suspension given to him by the team.
