The Washington Commanders are looking to earn an important NFC win against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.
Everyone remembers how this game turned out last season and what the rest of the year looked like for both teams after an emotional ending. The Commanders can't afford to lose any NFC games with the division looking wide-open this year, and there's one advantage the defense can execute on.
If the Commanders want to win on Monday night, they need to continue what they did last week, put pressure on Caleb Williams and bring out his worst habits.
When the pass rush is on for the Commanders, the defense as a whole plays much better, as we saw last week against the Los Angeles Chargers . Justin Herbert was pressured 18 times and had a season-low 166 passing yards against the Commanders. Dorance Armstrong has been one of the best defensive ends in the league, and is currently third in the league in sacks with five, and third in pressure rate at 20.6%.
Five sacks already this season for Dorance Armstrong.

Commanders defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. knows that getting Williams down isn't easy, and they can't let opportunities slip away from them.
"You have to make sure you take one more step to him," Whitt said. "You can't just assume that you're going to get him down with any arm tackling. You have to get your body to him because he has a tremendous kick-through where he can pull his legs out. He can make big guys fall off of him. So, not only do you have to cage him, but you have to make sure you bring extra bodies to him.”

The good news for Bears' fans is that quarterback Caleb Williams doesn't take sacks nearly as much as he did last season. He's only been sacked seven times with this newly revamped offensive line, which is a drastic improvement from last year. The downside, however, is that Williams still faces a lot of pressure, and he doesn't perform well when he does.
Williams faces pressure on 31% of his dropbacks, and that's when his production drops drastically. According to SumerSports, Williams has completed 17 of 36 passes (47.2%) for 131 yards, with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. His yards per attempt when pressured are just 3.6.
For comparison, his overall passing stats show a completion percentage of 62.3% (81 of 130), 927 passing yards, 8 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, and 7.1 yards per attempt. This demonstrates how significantly pressure affects his performance, with his completion percentage dropping by 15.1 percentage points and his yards per attempt falling by 3.5 yards when under duress.

Bears right tackle Darnell Wright didn't practice on Thursday with an elbow injury, so that will be worth watching. If he can't go, it'll be rookie Ozzy Trapilo trying to stop Armstrong coming off the edge, which likely won't go well.
