The Cowboys’ end-of-season press conference was laughable

The end-of-season press conference that Jerry Jones and the boys hold every single year after it ends in disappointment once again was pure comedy.

Per usual, Jerry danced around any type of important questions that our fans wanted answers to, and credit to the reporters in attendance because they continued to drill him, and he made sure to avoid it as much as possible.

I actually laughed at most of it, and continued to shake my head.

Still, I watched the entire thing, and below are the three biggest takeaways that I took from the conference, and I will post a link to the entire conference here for you to watch if you would like to see everything else that was talked about.

Next Defensive Coordinator?

Many questions were asked about what this front office plans to do when it comes to who may be the next defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys.

Jerry Jones first said Brian Schottenheimer had a lot to do with hiring Matt Eberflus as the DC. Jones said if Schotty didn’t want Eberflus as DC he wouldn’t be here. So it started with Jerry doing everything in his power to NOT take the blame.

He never takes accountability and this is the issue with the Cowboys and everyone knows it.

He went on to say being a former head coach is not a requirement for the next defensive coordinator and the Cowboys could look at a first-time coordinator as well. Cowboys have had a former head coach as their DC since 2014.

Schotty said they want to find someone who’s a great teacher and a great communicator … who’s passionate about football, and who can get complicated information.

Jerry said they have not started requesting formal interviews yet, but plan to put some in later this week.

Pickens & Williams

Something that was brought up multiple times was whether the front office would bring back either George Pickens or Javonte Williams.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones signing Williams is at the top of their list of offseason priorities: “We want to bring him back and sign him to a multiple-year deal,” he said.

That was the most direct they would get with either of the two.

Pickens is also a main priority, but he has the same agent as Micah Parsons, and I think they wanted to avoid being as direct as they were about Williams.

When asked about it, Jones went on and on about how much the Cowboys think of Pickens and then was immediately asked if they would get a long-term deal done sooner or later. He avoided the question. Shocker.

They did say that if Parsons had been signed long term, they wouldn’t have the money to sign Pickens. My honest guess is that they slap the franchise tag on him in hopes they get a deal done.

If the franchise tag is applied, Pickens does not have to sign it immediately. If he does not do that, they both have until July 15 to get a long-term deal finished.

March 3rd is the deadline for the Cowboys to use tag in general.

Bust The Budget

Jerry once again ended the conference talking about what they need and want to make sure they do better than how this season ended.

He noted how fans are tired of this and that and said that they need to maybe do things differently, just like when he said they were going to go “all in,” and never did and they somehow got worse???

“We want to get out here and do better than we did this year. (There’s) the incentive to, dare I say it, bust the budget to try to get something done now? Yes,” Jerry said.

He ended the conference saying that his goal in life was to retire with the most Super Bowls won. That is what made me laugh the most.

He is 83 years old, has not made a conference title game in 30 years, and yes, he really said that.

Robert Kraft has 6, sorry Jerry, do us all a favor and just retire now so maybe we can stop suffering.

Who I am I kidding though? He loves the attention, and he lives for this type of stuff right here, not winning like he did before I was born.
