The Dallas Cowboys already answered the most important question of their offseason at OTAs and minicamp

The truth is the Dallas Cowboys didn't do much to move the needle in the 2025 offseason other than trading for WR George Pickens

Other than that, the Cowboys took the same old conservative approach we're used to seeing from them. Bargain free agents. Low-risk, high-reward gambles.

And sure, they changed head coaches but not before trying to convince Mike McCarthy to stay. No disrespect to Brian Schottenheimer—who is off to a good start this offseason—but it wasn't like the team made a statement hire when they really wanted McCarthy on a short-term deal

As such, I view Pickens' arrival as the one glimmer of hope that the Cowboys can be different this year. The roster has many roster holes, it's true. But with Pickens, a Dak Prescott-led offense that also counts with CeeDee Lamb and Jake Ferguson, the team has a chance at having an elite passing game. And that's something you can bet on to take you to the playoffs and even win when you're in them.

But Pickens isn't a guarantee to work, specially because of attitude problems that were the cause of trouble in Pittsburgh. It's why the Steelers moved on in the first place. His personality is the question mark.

And well, so far, he's passing with flying colors. It truly seems like the Cowboys already answered the most important question of the offseason.

“The guy, he’s been great, he’s been phenomenal," Dak Prescott told reporters about Pickens via Jon Machota from The Athletic. "He’s a guy that loves football, loves his teammates, he’s been excited every day that he’s been here. He’s been early. So no concerns on the personal matters of GP and anything about it."

The quarterback added Pickens is proof of why he doesn't "think you should ever really listen to what somebody else says about somebody."

Later on Thursday—the Cowboys' last day of minicamp and last time together until training camp in Oxnard—head coach Brian Schottenheimer doubled down on the praise.

"He comes to work everyday with a smile on his face," Schottenheimer said about Pickens. "He's very personable. I love being around him, I love talking about life, I love shooting baskets against him. . . He's been amazing, he was the last guy to leave the practice field today, that speaks volumes about the fact that he's excited about what we're building. I'm a big GP fan."

Keeping up such a positive mindset will be crucial. But for now, Pickens is off to a great start on and off the practice field. And considering he's the guy who could be the difference between a great and an average season, that's great news.
