The stage has been set, and the Dallas Cowboys have had a busy offseason, making moves that should help their team next season. They placed the franchise tag on wide receiver George Pickens.

The organization is trying to rework the contracts of defensive tackles Quinnen Williams, Osa Odighizuwa, and Kenny Clark. The Cowboys are expected to restructure the contracts of quarterback Dak Prescott, WR CeeDee Lamb, and  guard Tyler Smith, creating $66 million of cap space.

The Cowboys’ Race To Lock Down George Pickens

This was a smart move by Dallas. Clocking in Pickens at $28M gives them leverage to get a long-term deal done by July. That Lamb-Pickens duo with Dak could be unstoppable.

George had 93 catches and 1,400 yards in his first year with Dak. This could be the best trade GM Jerry Jones has made in a decade if they do not lose him.

Cowboys To Rework Top Defensive Line Contracts

Williams, Odighizuwa, and Clark are scheduled to count roughly $63 million against the salary cap. The situation with the three defensive tackles will be the cap movement of the most importance.

Cowboys could add void years to these larger contracts. This would allow them to spread their cap numbers through more years, lowering their cap hit per year.

Cowboys Free $66M To Redefine Their Future

Restructuring Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Tyler Smith to free up $66M signals they’re clearly trying to create immediate flexibility. If they land the right pieces, Dallas could be contenders again.

Sometimes the sacrifice is worth the rewards; A true leader does things like this. People can say they want about Dak, but this is a sign of leadership.  CeeDee and Tyler are also great leaders.

End Of My Dallas Cowboys 2026 Offseason Rant

A restructure is fine, but it’s a short-term fix. The Cowboys need something that gives them more flexibility to open their window for three to four years. An extension would be better.

If Dallas believes they have nailed this coaching staff on both sides of the ball, then they need the personnel to match. In order to make a serious run or two, they just need some time to make it all click.
