The Dolphins May Have Hit the Jackpot on Three Rookie Defensive Tackles

The Miami Dolphins had a plan of attack entering the 2025 NFL Draft: BUILD UP THE TRENCHES!

Especially on the defensive side of the football.

In Round 1, they selected Kenneth Grant, DT, Michigan.

In Round 4, they selected Jordan Phillips, DT, Maryland.

In Round 7, they selected Zeek Biggers, DT, Georgia Tech.

The addressing of the defensive line was long overdue, and give credit to Chris Grier and the Dolphins front office, they went all in this past April’s draft

So far, the early results suggest that Miami may have hit the jackpot, finding three contributors within this group.

With the draft, you never really know, especially with picks in rounds 4 and 7.

And to be fair, it’s early, as of August 17th, and you don’t want to get too far ahead of things with bold proclamations on any rookie.

With that said, it’s tough not to be excited with the early signs out of camp and the preseason from Grant, Phillips, and Biggers.

Miami Dolphins defensive line coach Austin Clark must go to bed with a smile every night over the fact that he gets to work with these three players.

In the first preseason game, Grant showed off his athleticism on more than one occasion to make a play. He has lived up to his draft hype thus far and looks to be someone who will be an anchor on the defensive line for many years to come.

Jordan Phillips had a quiet start to training camp, but has really turned it on of late.

Last week vs the Bears, he had four tackles, and this week he had four tackles and a 1.5 sacks in the game.

Zeek Biggers almost blocked a kick last week (which is what he was known for at Georgia Tech), and Saturday vs the Lions, he “ate space,” which allowed linebackers to make plays around him. Which is exactly what his role is.

These are early signs of young rookies flashing, and for Phillips and Biggers, given their draft positions and the expectations entering the league, they are very good signs.

Grant, we all had an idea that he would be good. I mean, when you’re drafted as high as he was, you better be good.

But as we know, what we “expect” isn’t always the case. Some players are busts or don’t live up to expectations.

And while the jury is still out on all three of these players, early signs are very positive that Miami may have hit the jackpot on three defensive tackles of the future.

And if you are a Miami Dolphins fan, that should bring a smile to your face.
