The Jacksonville Jaguars are already moving on from a young player they drafted just a year ago in the 2024 NFL Draft

The Jacksonville Jaguars went through significant change this offseason. They hired a new general manager, James Gladstone, and hired Liam Coen to be their head coach. A complete reset for the Jaguars was needed, but a new regime doesn't always bode well for young roster fringe players.

An example of this has already happened. The Jaguars chose to waive a 2024 NFL Draft selection before training camp even arrives.

Jaguars waive 2024 NFL draft pick Keilan Robinson

The Jaguars drafted Keilan Robinson in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Before being drafted, Robinson had a four-year college career at Alabama and Texas. He started his collegiate career in 2019 at Alabama before transferring to Texas for his final three seasons. He wasn't a starter as a running back in college but had a significant role as a returner during the final two years at Texas.

He showed off his speed at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine by recording a 4.42 40-yard dash, which was the 4th fastest time of any RB in attendance. If he had been in the 2025 draft class his 4.42 40-yard dash would have tied for the sixth fastest time for a RB.

Robinson only appeared in six games for the Jaguars as a rookie and only recorded two kick returns for 34 total yards. This move to move on from Robinson shows that Gladstone has no attachment to players drafted by the previous regime. So if you don't perform and earn a job in training camp, there is a real threat of not making the roster. Due to his speed and experience as a returner in college, I suspect someone will give him the chance to compete in training camp. But the Jaguars have a lot of bodies in their RB room, and Robinson had little to no chance of making their roster even before this move.
