Everything was already going horrifically wrong for the Las Vegas Raiders against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, and it almost got even worse.
Maxx Crosby did not play the entire second half of the game due to a knee injury that he sustained. The pass rusher already picked up a back injury during practice, and losing him caused the defense to struggle even more. It was one thing to get shut out by the Chiefs, but losing the best defensive player in the process would have been a death sentence for the Raiders.
Fortunately, it appears as though the Raiders dodged a massive bullet.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Crosby was held out for the remainder of the Chiefs game as a precaution, with the injury not expected to hinder him moving forward.
#Raiders star edge Maxx Crosby, who left today’s game with a knee injury, should be OK moving forward, source said. More of a precaution than anything.

While the news about Crosby is all well and good, it does not erase the fact that the Raiders have serious soul searching to do.
The Raiders offense only managed 95 yards of total offense and picked up only three first downs. Neither side of the ball was particularly effective, resulting in the Chiefs more than doubling the Raiders in time of possession. The 30 plays the Raiders ran on offense were the fewest in a game since the Cleveland Browns’ return game in 1999.
This embarrassment will be hard to wash out, and Crosby and the rest of the locker room leaders will now have the bye week to get the Raiders back into the swing of things.
