The Lions need to make sure that Aidan Hutchinson spends the majority of his night on the right side of the defensive line, here's why

Monday Night Football is set up to be a pretty fun game with your Detroit Lions hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This has turned into something of a fun rivalry again. Back in the day, both teams played each other every season as members of the NFC Central. Now they're playing every year because the league wants to see a good game.

Today, we're breaking down the Lions' biggest advantage in this game, and it's going to be on defense, primarily on that defensive line, where Detroit is expecting to get Alim McNeill back for this one, according to Lions head coach Dan Campbell. That's big, but Aidan Hutchinson is the guy in this game if he stays on one side of the line all night, if you ask our Bucs beat writer Evan Winter.

Aidan Hutchinson can take advantage of the battered right side of the Buccaneers' offensive line

"Just like last year, the Bucs will roll out a backup at right tackle against Hutchinson and the Lions. This time, it’s Charlie Heck instead of Justin Skule. Heck has been OK, but will certainly have his hands full when Hutchinson lines up across from him. It could even extend to the right guard position, where it’s currently unknown exactly who mans the position. If it’s Elijah Klein, we are talking about the third starter the Bucs will have deployed at right guard through seven weeks.

Hutchinson’s snap count at left end and right end is nearly identical, but I’d think they’ll line him up on the offensive right more during this game. If that’s the case, expect the Bucs to use Cade Otton and Payne Durham for help. Whether it be chips or another full-on blocker to help Heck.

When/if Hutchinson lines up on the offensive left, well, he’ll be going up against the best left tackle in the game in Tristan Wirfs. I fully expect the Bucs to leave him 1-on-1 with Hutchinson, which is more than reasonable and logical. That will be a fun matchup to watch when it’s dialed up."

That's good news for Hutchinson to not only be going up against a third-string right tackle, but a third strong right guard as well. With McNeill back, he takes on double teams almost as much as Hutchinson does. That gives Hutchinson some more one-on-one opportunities. You want to double Hutchinson instead, well, step right up to the plate, McNeill.

Mayfield can be mobile for sure, but he's still getting hit out there. He's been sacked 10 times this season. The Lions need to make sure they're the next team doing that.
