Los Angeles Rams tight end Terrance Ferguson has been thrust into a situation regarding his rookie contract. LA is one of many NFL teams dealing with a peculiar, unexpected task ahead of training camp.
Rookie tight end Terrance Ferguson is one of 30 second-round picks who have not inked a deal yet. Just two players taken in round two of the 2025 NFL Draft have signed. Both got fully-guaranteed deals, sending many teams into a tough spot in negotiations.
The league-wide problem is the result of the first two rookies selected in the round signing fully guaranteed deals: LB Carson Schwesinger (Cleveland Browns) and WR Jayden Higgins (Houston Texans).
Rookie deals for draft picks have pre-established values agreed by the NFL and NFLPA through their Collective Bargaining Agreement. However, guarantees and specific language for those guarantees are negotiated. When both Schwesinger and Higgins received fully guaranteed deals earlier in the offseason, they set a precedent that every agent wants to take advantage of. -- Mauricio Rodriguez
For the Rams, they did not pick in round one. They moved back in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons, so their first pick was Ferguson in the middle of the second round. This means that their potentially most impactful rookie is involved in all of this. Ferguson is competing for the starting TE job alongside Tyler Higbee and Colby Parkinson.

Without a contract, it feels potentially cloudy when it comes to the rookie's availability in training camp. Those reps can be incredibly important, particularly for young players trying to adjust to the NFL level of competition and expectations.
The Rams report to train camp on July 22nd. Some camp practices will be open to the public. The situation with Ferguson is worth monitoring going forward as the end of the month approaches.
