The Miami Dolphins are Considered an Unserious Organization
The title of this blog might strike you as inflammatory, and it is, but I believe that’s warranted.
Last season and into this offseason, the Miami Dolphins have made moves that paint them as an organization that lacks vision and confidence in their decision-making. From whispers of players being allowed to show up late to meetings, including their star player and captain, Tyreek Hill, quitting on the team altogether in the regular season finale, the 2024 season was full of drama but short on success.
This lack of direction has followed them into the 2025 offseason, with the announcement that the team is looking to trade their defensive star, Jalen Ramsey.
Ramsey came over in 2023 in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams and offered flashes of greatness but also came with baggage. As Dave Hyde of the Sun Sentinel tells it, he, along with Tyreek Hill, were the players who would show up late to meetings, causing friction within the team from players who took their jobs more seriously.
“He became a symbol of the Dolphins just collecting talent rather than building a team. Ramsey and Tyreek Hill were constantly late for practices or meetings in a manner that set the culture of last year’s Dolphins.”
As such, the team felt they needed to move on from Ramsey in order to help establish a culture of success. The idea that head coach Mike McDaniel might be going too easy on players and allowing a relaxed culture to be created, resulting in players taking advantage of his players’ first approach, was echoed by former New England Patriots Pro Bowl cornerback Asante Samuel Sr. In an episode of his podcast “Say What Needs to Be Said,” Samuel raged against the Dolphins organization.
“The Dolphins had no reason to trade Jalen Ramsey, other than they’re sensitive, there’s no leadership in the Dolphins organization, Mike McDaniel is a pushover and Chris Grier the General Manager has no backbone.” Samuel said. “These guy’s, the Miami Dolphins are running this team like a little league team, no one can stand up to the players, they’re terrified of their own players, and they have no control of their players.”
Many, myself included, had hoped that the Dolphins would work out a deal with Asante Samuel Jr. to come in and play cornerback, but after these comments, I believe it is safe to say that is off the table. It isn’t just former players who are calling out Miami, but those in the media have also identified that there are issues with the organization. In an interview on our YouTube channel, NBC Sports’ Mike Florio joined Mike Oliva to discuss the Dolphins and had very few kind words for the team, including an admonishment of their slow decision-making.
“How many teams can you think of, Mike, that have these many unresolved issues in late June?” Florio said. “These are all things that a normally functioning organization gets handled in March, if you’re moving on from Jalen Ramsey you move on in March, if you’re moving on from Jonnu Smith you move on from him in March… normal teams don’t have this, to me it’s a harbinger of what could be doom with the Dolphins in 2025.”
Needless to say, this is not the perception Dolphin fans want their team to have coming into 2025. The only silver lining I think of is that they will either outperform everyone’s extremely low expectations or things will really be as bad as they look, and they will be forced to fire McDaniel and Grier, creating a clean slate for 2026 and beyond. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Dolphins heading into next season. Are things as dire as many in the media are saying? Sound off in the comments.
