The New Orleans Saints are looking for ways to improve their offense around quarterback Tyler Shough this offseason, and they wasted little time in making a big addition to their backfield.

The Saints and the 27 year old Clemson product Travis Etienne agreed to a four-year, $52 million contract after his third 1,000-rushing-yard season in four campaigns. Etienne was selected with the 25th-overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, and was an immediate contributor in

Jacksonville, rushing for a still-career-best 1,125 yards with five touchdowns as a rookie. In his second season, he added another 1,008 yards while rushing for a career-high 11 touchdowns before struggling in 2024. Etienne bounced back in 2025 with 1,107 yards and seven touchdowns with another 292 yards and six touchdowns through the air.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the signing also opens the door to a potential trade of veteran Alvin Kamara, who struggled with efficiency in the 11 games he played in 2025.
