The 'NFL Offensive Players of the Year' quiz

Happy 65th birthday to nine-time Pro Bowler, 1984 AP MVP and Offensive Player of the Year and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2005, Dan Marino!

Marino was the 27th-overall pick in the 1983 Draft by the Miami Dolphins and once he took the starting quarterback job from David Woodley, he started setting records and never stopped. 

In 1984, he set then NFL all-time highs in passing touchdowns (48) and yards (5,084), leading the NFL in both categories three-straight seasons from 1984-86. The Pittsburgh native finished his career leading the NFL in passing five times in total, eclipsing 4,000-yards six times and 30 touchdowns four times.

Despite his extended period of regular season success as a quarterback, Marino famously retired without a Super Bowl ring – throwing for 318 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions in his singular appearance in The Big Game against San Francisco. 

After spending his entire 17-year career with the Dolphins, Marino retired following an 11-game season in 1999 in which he went 5-6 as a starter with 12 TD’s to 17 interceptions. He hung up his cleats with 61,361 yards and 420 touchdowns to his name along with three First-Team All-Pro designations and a 1998 Walter Payton Man of the Year award.
