The Numbers Behind the Opener Against the Colts for the 2025 Miami Dolphins
The 2025 season for these Miami Dolphins is intriguing, to say the least. Combine a solid offseason with one of the best drafts in years. This year’s team has the ammunition to be a competitor to the rest of the NFL. Almost every single draft pick is either going to contribute significant playing time and/or provide a major impact to the team’s success.
Other than the question marks that continue to surround the secondary, the flip side is the front seven. The pass rush, the big-bodied run stuffers, and stout linebacker corps can certainly provide relief to the secondary as they gel throughout the season. Having Minkah’s leadership will provide the top-shelf play mentality needed.
As week one approaches, let’s review some opening game numbers that the Dolphins have provided over the years.
33 – Miami has an overall record of 33-25-1 which consists of
11 – the second-longest winning streak of 11 games set between 1992 and 2002.
4 – They are currently riding a 4-game, opening-day winning streak, where all of these wins were with Tua at quarterback.
466 – In 2023, versus the LA Chargers, #1 was able to achieve his second-highest passing yards in a game, which went along with three touchdowns. The Dolphins’ record for passing yards in an opening game was achieved by none other than Dan Marino in 1994 against the NE Patriots, which saw him pass for
473 – yards in his first game back from the season-ending Achilles injury suffered in 1993.
49 – The Miami Dolphins lead the all-time series against the Colts with a record of 49 wins to 29 losses, with the last loss by
6 – Points last season in a game vastly different from this year, where Tyler Huntley went against Anthony Richardson.
1,321 – With the additions of Savaiinaea, Grant, Phillips, and Biggers, the team has added more than half a ton of size in the trenches.
26.94 – In an obvious shift to youth, the Dolphins went from the oldest roster in 2024 to the 7th youngest in 2025 at an average of 26.94 years.
The majority of the NFL reports, affiliations, etc.. all have the 2025 Miami Dolphins barely scratching the surface of a 500 season, let alone making a playoff run. In coach McDaniel’s make-or-break season, the team looks to be under the radar. Can they make a run and prove the pundits wrong?
Time will tell, but this team is greatly improved and has the roster to make some serious noise this season if everything plays out as they expect.
