The Oklahoma Sooners have made a strong push for their 2026 recruiting class over the last month, but aren't eschewing their 2027 class at all while doing so. One of those key recruits of the future is Oklahoma native OT Cooper Hackett.

Hackett, a four-star 6'7, 260-pound sophomore, plays for Fort Gibson High School, an hour outside of Norman, and already has a CVS receipt-long list of collegiate offers. The Sooners have already made an offer, but so have schools like Oregon, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Penn State, and Florida.

Oregon and Notre Dame, much like Oklahoma, are offensive line powerhouse programs and have produced a slew of NFL players over their history. Oklahoma will have their work cut out for them in his recruitment.

However, they have their own advantage in Bill Bedenbaugh. Bedenbaugh's reputation is well-earned and known far and wide by the offensive line community. Everybody who is anybody knows who Bedenbaugh is and his work in building the most impressive offensive line pipeline into the NFL of any coach in college football.

Hackett will be heading to Norman in June to work out with Bedenbaugh as part of a massive June for Oklahoma recruiting. While the focus will be on Bowe Bentley and the 2026 recruiting class, Hackett's recruitment is a priority for the Sooners, given that he is a borderline five-star who could be a major shot in the arm for their 2027 class.

Michael Fasusi and Ryan Fodje, a five and four-star, respectively, in the 2025 class, are the present for Oklahoma's offensive line. However, it's always wise to pay attention and build for the future, or else the Sooners can end up like they did in 2024, where Lincoln Riley's inability to prioritize future recruiting along the offensive line sapped Oklahoma's depth and ability last season.

There is still plenty of time in Hackett's recruitment, but this would be a major win for the Sooners if they can pull it off.
