The Philadelphia Eagles land another big win day after beating Cowboys in NFL Kickoff and it helps their chances to repeat

One day after beating the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football, the Philadelphia Eagles are pulling off another win and beefing up their pass rush with a three-time Pro Bowler

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Eagles have signed 32-year-old defensive end Za'Darius Smith to a one-year deal.

"Sources: Former Lions DE Za'Darius Smith is signing a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. It’s another pass rusher for 1-0 Philadelphia," Schefter writes.

Smith spent time with both the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions in 2024, where he posted nine combined sacks and 17 quarterback hits. Before that, Smith played for the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, and Baltimore Ravens.

Originally a fourth-round pick out of Kentucky by the Ravens back in 2015, Smith has totaled 69 career sacks, 173 QB hits, 85 tackles for loss, and 10 forced fumbles over 140 regular-season games with 96 starts.

Smith adds some solid veteran presence and depth to the Eagles’ edge rusher group as they try to fill the void left by Bryce Huff, Brandon Graham, and Josh Sweat. Currently, the Eagles are relying on young talent like Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt. He’ll be part of a rotation that also includes Joshua Uche, Ogbo Okoronkwo, and Azeez Ojulari.

In more Eagles roster moves, they place linebacker/fullback Ben VanSumeren on Injured Reserve with a knee injury. VanSumeren was hurt during Thursday night's opening kickoff. He was carted to the locker room and quickly ruled out.

The good news is that his injury has not been ruled season-ending, so hopefully, he can make his way back to full health sooner rather than later this season.
