The Pittsburgh Steelers Continue Their Busy 2025 Offseason

The final piece of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offseason fell into place this evening. They signed star Pass Rusher T.J. Watt to a contract earlier today that made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in league history. It has been an offseason full of change for the usually conservative Pittsburgh Steelers.

They added Quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Wide Receiver DK Metcalf, Cornerback Jalen Ramsey, Tight End Jonnu Smith, and Darius Slay. The team also lost Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and Wide Receiver George Pickens. Will this offseason help the habitually mediocre Pittsburgh Steelers break out of their rut?

Pittsburgh Steelers Season Outlook

Head Coach Mike Tomlin keeps defying the odds by keeping his streak of finishing .500 or above alive. The Pittsburgh Steelers have acted out of character this offseason by having such an aggressive offseason. While the Pittsburgh Steelers look good on paper, they will be mediocre once more.

In my opinion, it all boils down to whether Rodgers can turn the clock in “The Steel City.” He was unable to do so last season with the New York Jets. A positive spin is that Rodgers rounded into form as he got further removed from his Achilles injury.

My take on the situation is that the all-time great loosened up once the games became less meaningful and it became clear that New York would miss the playoffs. It is not smart to rely on a soon-to-be 42-year-old quarterback to lead a team to success. Unless you are Tom Brady. Many things can be said about Aaron Rodgers, but he is no Tom Brady.

Final Thoughts

Pittsburgh has a talented roster on paper. But that is not where games are contested. The Steelers are relying on diminishing players like Rodgers, Watt, Smith, and Ramsey this upcoming season. Pittsburgh has not won a playoff game since 2016. In a talented AFC, that streak will extend to a decade.
