The Ravens Should Extend Tavius Robinson

Tavius Robinson is entering the final year of his rookie contract and has shown enough year-to-year improvement that the Ravens should consider extending him as a long-term piece of their defense. Robinson has already made his own preference clear, saying during an early September press conference that he loves Baltimore and wants to be a Raven for the rest of his life.

Baltimore should reciprocate that enthusiasm by trying to hammer out a deal sooner rather than later. Robinson has improved every year he has been in the league, going from 26 combined tackles and one sack in 2023 to 32 combined tackles and 3.5 sacks in 2024 before recording 28 tackles and 4.5 sacks in just 10 games last season. Those numbers might not seem overly impressive compared with some of the league’s premier edge defenders, but Robinson’s impact extends beyond the stat sheet.

A Solid Run Stopper

During an October press conference last season, a Ravens pass-rush coach called Robinson a “hammer against the run.” He could fill a similar role under Jesse Minter as a physical edge-setter capable of doing some of the less glamorous work up front.

It would be a stretch to call Robinson a diamond in the rough or an analytics darling. PFF ranked him 107th out of 115 eligible edge defenders last season, and he does not rank among the league’s best at any major defensive statistic. But that would not be the point of an extension.

Robinson is big, physical, and capable of filling a useful role while providing depth to Baltimore’s defense. He does not even need to start in Minter’s new system. If he can consistently perform when called upon, keeping him around on a modest deal could make plenty of sense.
