The San Francisco 49ers Need to Acquire Vita Vea

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were dealt a bad hand with Vita Vea as he requested a trade, and he is on the final year of his contract making $22,194,460 in 2026. The Buccaneers may not seem interested in trading Vea, but the smart move, if there is enough interest in Vea around the league, would be trading the 31 year old defensive tackle.

Looking at Kevin Patra's article from NFL.com and one of his eight teams he discussed was the San Francisco 49ers and it makes the most sense that they are the most likely target.

"Given his Northern Cali roots, San Francisco would probably be an idyllic way for Vea to sunset his career. I'm not sure that the Niners would reciprocate the desire after the acquisition of the penetrating Osa Odighizuwa, who better fits their scheme. San Francisco likely wants to allow its youngsters room to grow, including 2025 second- and fourth-round DTs Alfred Collins and CJ West, along with 2026 fourth-rounder Gracen Halton. 

Still, the Niners have the cap space to fit Vea in the long term, and given the injuries suffered last year, preemptively boosting the D-line before the season could provide insurance while also upgrading the veteran talent. The Niners are legit Super Bowl contenders. Adding a player like Vea could help them keep pace with the reigning champs from Seattle and the bulked-up Rams." - NFL.com.

It's understandable to look at the 49ers and look at their trade for Osa Odighizuwa and make the case they shouldn't target the defensive tackle position, but with the teams in their division like the defending champions Seattle Seahawks as well as the Super Bowl favorite Los Angeles Rams, and they need to make a splash. Vita Vea being added to this defense is a serious needle mover and needs to happen.
