The 'SEC passing leaders since 1995' quiz

The last time quarterback Carson Beck took a snap in a game, he was facing the Indiana Hoosiers for the College Football Playoff title. 

But on Thursday the third-round rookie will take the first snaps of the 2026 preseason for the Arizona Cardinals in Canton as they face the Carolina Panthers in the Hall of Fame Game. 

Beck spent four years in the Georgia Bulldogs program, winning a national title as a backup in 2021 and 2022. While he was the SEC’s leading passer in his first year as the Georgia QB1, he and the Bulldogs suffered “early,” losses in the CFP tournament in 2023 and 2024. He transferred to Miami and helped the Hurricanes get back to their first national title game since 2001.

When asked about making his “first,” NFL start, Beck said the news caught him by surprise. 

“I had no clue I was going to start,” he said. 

“I thought I was going to play, but I had no expectations. I’m looking forward to it.”

Now with the Cardinals, the 24 year old is expected to be mentored in the immediate future by veterans Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew. If things go to plan for Arizona, he won’t see much of the field in the regular season this year, but it will be an interesting first look at a signal caller who is relatively old by rookie standards.
