Miami Dolphins All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill is now a free agent after they released the soon-to-be 32-year-old on Monday . The Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills, and the Los Angeles Chargers are the best landing spots for Hill.
This was a major bombshell heading into the next NFL season. His release will save the Dolphins $22.8M against the salary cap.
The Chiefs have emerged as a potential landing spot after Hill’s release. He spent 2016-2021 with Kansas City, so a reunion makes sense. He also won a Super Bowl with them, and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is back.
Health, age, and big-salary hurdles make a high-cost return unlikely as they rebuild around quarterback Patrick Mahomes. His recent ACL injury will render him an average WR at best.
The Steelers have a strong need for a wide receiver in free agency. Hill, paired with DK Metcalf, would be an electric duo with Aaron Rodgers, if he returns as their quarterback.
With the talent at wide receiver in this draft, the Steelers must use their first pick on one. Hill would have been attractive prior to last season, but with his injuries and age, it is better to address the position in the draft.
The Broncos need to add a big-time play-making wide receiver this offseason. Hill tilts coverage every snap and would make QB Bo Nix’s life easier.
Denver does not need to bring in some big-name overpaid, locker-room-cancer diva WR. Spend the money on a tight end/ running back, expand Marvin Mims’ role in the offense and continue developing Troy Franklin and Pat Bryant.
Bills could land Hill as a dynamic, veteran target to pair with quarterback Josh Allen, boosting their passing game. This could be a game-changer for Buffalo’s Super Bowl push.
Hill is not a player young guys should learn from, especially coming from the toxic Dolphins locker room. He hates Buffalo and Bills fans.
The Chargers made one of the biggest offensive moves of the offseason by bringing in Mike McDaniel as their new offensive coordinator. Hill and McDaniel produced historic numbers together in Miami, including back-to-back seasons of over 1,700 receiving yards.
Realistically, the move is complicated. Hill is coming off a serious knee injury and would carry major financial implications for both sides.
Business is business, so the Dolphins cut Hill, but they did acknowledge his contributions on the way out. He also had a message on social media expressing his determination to come back.
The ‘Cheetah’ era in Miami was a confusing one. His personal success in 2022 and 2023 was nothing short of phenomenal, but it didn’t translate to winning like Miami hoped.
