There Are Calls For Browns To Fire General Manager On Friday

As the Cleveland Browns trudge through the 2025 season tied for the second-worst record in football, their fans got even more reasons to be angry at their front office last night.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco, who until about a week ago was their backup quarterback prior to a trade, looked 15 years younger as he led the team to a 33-31 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Flacco completed over 60-percent of his passes for 342 yards and three touchdowns - more than any Browns QB has in either category all season.

Suffice it to say, Browns fans were not thrilled to see their former signal caller giving their arch-nemesis in Ohio a boost. So they've been giving the "mastermind" of the trade a real piece of their minds for the last 12 hours.

The Response

By far the loudest voice on the issue has been Tony Rizzo of ESPN Cleveland's The Tony Rizzo Show. On this morning's episode of his show, he point-blank called for Browns GM Andrew Berry to fired for his handling of the Browns' quarterback situation this year.

For those who don't recall, the Browns went into the season with five quarterbacks on their active roster. Deshaun Watson quickly went to season-ending injured reserve, Flacco was named the starter while rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders competed with veteran Kenny Pickett for the backup job.

Insanity ensued.

"Since the Browns moved on from Deshaun Watson, they have screwed this quarterback thing up worse than I could ever imagine!" Rizzo said. "I've never seen anything more stupid in my life than Andrew Berry handling the quarterback situation. He should be fired for that alone... You signed Joe Flacco and you traded him to a division rival, who looks like they can go to the playoffs! All Joe Flacco has done since going to Cincinnati is throw for 561 yards in two games, five touchdowns and no interceptions!"

Rizzo is far from the only one complaining about this. Browns fans have been echoing the same sentiment since last night:

"I think every one of them should be fired! Except Jim Schwartz! He can stay!" one user remarked on X.

"He should just quit," another suggested.

"Complete house cleaning. They all need to go. There’s zero question in my mind they all are done," a third declared.

In Berry's defense, the Bengals have a far better receiving corps than the Browns do. Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins are one of the best receiving duos since Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne and those two could find a way to dominate games with any competent QB.

That said, trading a player to a division rival is still fairly egregious and it looks even worse when the player looks better after the trade.

Simply put, if the Browns don't show significant growth over the next few weeks, Rizzo might get his wish.
