Justin Jefferson has been an excellent player and leader for the Minnesota Vikings since he was drafted in 2020. However, he might be running out of patience.
This season has been a disaster for the Vikings in large part because of their quarterback room. Former first-round pick J.J. McCarthy is completing 54.1% of his passes this season for 929 yards with six touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Max Brosmer filled in for McCarthy in Week 13 since he was in the league's concussion protocol. He ended up throwing four interceptions in a 26-0 loss to the Seahawks.
Following the Vikings-Seahawks game, Jefferson reportedly refused to speak to the media. Fans are convinced he's tired of Minnesota's quarterback situation and will request a trade in the offseason.
Jefferson has 62 receptions for 799 yards and two touchdowns this season. That's a huge drop-off from his 2024 campaign, which included 1,533 yards and 10 touchdowns.
While on ESPN's "Get Up" this week, Adam Schefter provided an update on Jefferson's future with the Vikings.
"They're going to speak to him, I'm sure, at some point in time, and get some feedback and input as to the player that he would want," Schefter said. "It's hard to imagine that they would trade Justin Jefferson, but then again, a year ago, I would've said it's hard to imagine the Dallas Cowboys would trade Micah Parsons, and they did."
Schefter continued, "I still don't think they're trading Justin Jefferson. I think he's clearly miffed and disappointed and bewildered by the way this entire season — and offseason losing Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones — has gone. But I don't think it's going to change much, and I don't think they're going to be moving off Justin Jefferson this offseason."
The Vikings have Jefferson under contract through the 2028 season, so they don't need to get rid of him anytime soon. Besides, trading him next year would result in a $46 million dead cap charge.
Suffice to say, the best course of action for the Vikings is to fix their quarterback situation and make Jefferson happy.
