The Chicago Bears have been one of the more intriguing teams this offseason with the addition of undrafted free agents. They have added a few players at key positions as they look to improve the roster. There are some exciting players who could make the team, but who is the most exciting? Let’s take a closer look at who it is for the Bears and what he could do.

Skyler Thomas is considered to be the most exciting UDFA for the Chicago Bears

Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport wrote an article highlighting the most exciting undrafted free agent for each team. For the Bears, Davenport selected Oregon State safety Skyler Thomas and wrote the following about him:

“Thomas led Oregon State in total tackles each of the past two seasons, and per Lance Zierlein of NFL.com the safety has demonstrated some real upside over his collegiate career… Thomas’ long speed isn’t great, and he needs to improve as a tackler. But the Bears are re-making their safety room on the fly this year, and he also possesses more than a little special teams potential.”

Thomas spent four seasons with Oregon State. In 49 games, he recorded 191 total tackles (109 solo, 82 assisted) with one tackle for loss, three interceptions, 14 pass deflections, one forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries. He also had one punt return on special teams, so he can play multiple roles for Chicago.

The safety position has been completely revamped from last season, as five of the seven players listed at either free or strong safety are newcomers to the roster. Dillon Thieneman was drafted while Coby Bryant, Cam Lewis, and Anthony Johnson Jr were all signed in free agency. The only returning players are Elijah Hicks and Gervarrius Owens.

Giving defensive coordinator Dennis Allen a better secondary should certainly improve its output. There are a lot of exciting undrafted free agents that Chicago could have on the team in 2026. If he is able to make the 53-man roster, it will be intriguing to see how he is able to improve with the Bears.
