Is Jaxson Dart the answer to New York’s quarterback problem? Will head coach Brian Daboll last a full season? These are just some of the questions we have about the 2025 Giants.
When will Dart start?
General manager Joe Schoen surprised no one by taking Penn State edge-rusher Abdul Carter third overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, but few expected to see him trade back into the first round for the Ole Miss quarterback.
New York traded its second-round pick (No. 34), a third-round pick (No. 99), and a 2026 third-round pick to the Houston Texans to get Dart with the 25th pick but even at that price, there’s a good chance he doesn’t see the field in 2025.
Dart would start immediately had the team not signed 31-year-old Jameis Winston to a two-year, $8M contract after giving 36-year-old Russell Wilson a one-year, $10.5M deal in the offseason.
"Russ will be our starter, and that's how it will be once we get started here in the spring," Daboll told reporters at the draft. "The process of developing a quarterback is just that. So we're going to do everything we can to develop him and bring him along."
Wilson won his first four starts with the Steelers but went 0-4 to end the 2024 season. He’ll need another fast start to keep Dart off the field next fall.
Who is RB1?
A former wide receiver and fifth-round pick in 2024, Tyrone Tracy Jr. finished last season as the Giants’ lead running back with 839 yards and five touchdowns. Former Bill and Texan Devin Singletary was supposed to be the guy after signing a three-year, $16.5M contract last offseason, but Tracy simply had more big runs.
Cam Skattebo, a fourth-round pick in this year’s draft, had plenty of big runs with Arizona State, rushing for a team-high 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2024 with 45 catches for 605 yards and three scores through the air.

At 5-foot-11 and 219 pounds, Skattebo is roughly the same size as Tracy but runs much tougher. He was the only college running back besides Ashton Jeanty to force more than 100 missed tackles in 2024.
In all likelihood, the Giants will take a committee approach with their running backs next season but if they opt to focus on one ball-carrier, Skattebo could get the first shot.
Should the head coach be on the “hot seat?”
The Giants have played poorly since Daboll led the team to the playoffs in 2022. Few expected him to return after guiding the team to a 6-11 record in 2023 and even less thought he would be back following last year's 3-14 campaign.
“Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll will continue in their respective roles with the organization," team president John Mara said at the end of the season. “I think in Brian's case, he was the Coach of the Year two years ago. That didn't disappear all of a sudden. I still believe he can do that again.”
New York went 3-2 to start the 2024 season only to lose 10 straight games before beating the Colts in Week 17. That simply can’t happen in 2025, but if Wilson or Dart plays well the Giants could look to keep Daboll around.
