The Pittsburgh Steelers have finished .500 or better every season since 2003, but it might be challenging to keep that streak alive after losing quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields this offseason.
Looking ahead to the 2025 season, here are the three burning questions about the Steelers:
This is an obvious one, right?
With Wilson and Fields out of town, the Steelers are left with just three quarterbacks on the active roster: Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson and sixth-round pick Will Howard. None of those three names inspires much confidence in 2025, but there's a good chance Pittsburgh's next starting quarterback isn't on the roster yet.
You have to set a deadline for Aaron Rodgers to sign if you’re the Steelers.

The Steelers are still the presumed favorites to land Aaron Rodgers in free agency. Unfortunately for the Steelers, that means Pittsburgh must wait on Rodgers, and there's no telling when his next ayahuasca trip or darkness retreat will give him that answer. OTAs don't start until May 27, but the Steelers would love to have Rodgers in the building before then.
The Steelers played for the short term by grabbing three NFL-ready prospects with their first three picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. Derrick Harmon was one of the best defensive tackle prospects in the class, RB Kaleb Johnson could be an immediate upgrade over Najee Harris after rushing for 1,537 yards and 21 touchdowns at Iowa last season and LB Jack Sawyer showcased his leadership and ability to live up to the moment during Ohio State's championship run.
All three players will have their chance to carve out important roles in Pittsburgh right away. Harmon should eventually supplant 2024 All-Pro Cameron Heyward, who will turn 36 on May 6. Johnson will be a key piece of Pittsburgh's one-two punch in the backfield with Jaylen Warren. The Steelers also need production off the edge outside of T.J. Watt, and that's what Sawyer (23 sacks in four college seasons) can provide in Year 1.
The Steelers pride themselves on their consistency, especially when it comes to head coaches. Pittsburgh has employed only three head coaches since Chuck Noll took over the team in 1969, but ownership's patience with Tomlin must be wearing thin.
Tomlin has led the Steelers to the playoffs four times in the past five seasons, but Pittsburgh hasn't won a postseason game since the 2016 season. The 53-year-old's unwillingness to adapt to the modern game on offense has cost him in recent years. As high as Pittsburgh's floor is with Tomlin at the helm, its ceiling doesn't seem to be high enough to make a Super Bowl run. If nothing changes in 2025, Rooney might think about making a change.
