The Philadelphia Eagles are without their franchise quarterback for the remainder of the season. On Monday, the team announced that Jalen Hurts will be out for the rest of the year due to "multiple blood clots" in his lungs.
Hurts' health is the priority now because blood clots are serious health issues. So, he's off the field, and now the Eagles may have to scramble to find a replacement.
Eagles backup quarterback Tanner McKee has been playing with Hurts out, and he could certainly continue doing that for the remainder of the season. But Philadelphia could also go in a different direction and bring in a free agent or make a trade for a fill-in quarterback. So, let's look at three signal-callers who could fit in Philly.
Jimmy Garoppolo has a lot of experience and has played for a variety of teams, including the San Francisco 49ers, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots. In his 85-game NFL career, he's notched more than 15,000 passing yards and over 90 touchdowns.
Will he light the world on fire with the Eagles? Probably not. He hasn't started a game in almost two years. But he could be a strong veteran anchor.
Brock Purdy is healthy, and that means that unless something unfortunate happens, Mac Jones probably won't get much playing time this season. He's had strong performances when he's had to start games, and the Eagles could trade for him. During the 2025-26 season when Purdy was injured, Jones clocked more than 2,000 passing yards and 13 touchdowns.
Yes, this one seems kind of crazy. It's out of left field. But with Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson winning games, Shedeur Sanders probably won't have much playing time this season. If that's the case, he could find a home somewhere else.
There's always lots of trade talk about Sanders, and the Eagles could trade for him and see him as someone to develop. It's a big if, but it could happen.
