There is one more game for the San Francisco 49ers before their Week 8 bye. This Sunday, they will visit the Atlanta Falcons, a team that is 2-4 but cannot be taken lightly, if for no other reason than the presence of star running back Bijan Robinson.
The Niners are 6-0 after getting past the Washington Commanders, 23-17, on Monday, but they continue to be short-handed. While they could be on the verge of getting a couple of key players back from injury, three key ones didn’t take part in Wednesday’s practice.
As a result, they could be extremely depleted at one key position group this weekend.
Wide receiver Mike Evans, who exited Monday’s game just before halftime due to an Achilles condition, didn’t practice on Wednesday as a result of that condition.
Ian Rapoport reported that Evans has Achilles tendonitis and that it is an ailment that will have to be managed all season.
Defensive ends Nick Bosa (knee, calf) and Mykel Williams (knee), wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. (hamstring), linebackers Luke Gifford (groin) and Garret Wallow (hamstring), safeties Siran Neal (knee) and Marques Sigle (ankle), cornerback Upton Stout (shoulder) also didn’t practice, per 49ers Webzone. Left tackle Trent Williams got a veteran rest day.
Linebacker Jaden Dugger (knee) and safety Ashtyn Davis (hamstring) were limited participants on Wednesday.
The good news for the 49ers is that wide receiver Christian Kirk, who hasn’t played yet this season due to a calf injury, was a full participant on Wednesday. His practice window was opened last week, and he could be on track to play this Sunday.
If he does play, the timing would be perfect, as Evans’ status for Week 7 seems to be up in the air.
Linebacker Dre Greenlaw also returned to practice after serving his one-game suspension for head-butting the Seattle Seahawks’ Ernest Jones IV in Week 5.
Per 49ers Webzone, head coach Kyle Shanahan is hopeful that Bosa will be able to practice on Thursday.
“No, can’t go today, but hoping he’ll be back tomorrow,” Shanahan said.
Bosa hasn’t played since Week 2, when San Francisco got past the Miami Dolphins.
